Chavis Marmol

Chavis Mármol assembles, translates, and transplants various iconic figures drawn from popular culture, the art world, and the collective imagination. These operations, often infused with humor and critique, allow him to comment on, influence, and provoke within the specific context in which he operates—Mexico City—on personal, social, and political levels.

Mármol’s work encompasses a wide range of sculptural techniques and materials (stone, wood, metal, clay, resin, textiles, organic waste, etc.), frequently combined with performative actions that take place in public spaces. These interventions, in close dialogue with their surrounding environment, address a variety of themes. On one hand, his work explores Mexico’s third-world condition; on the other, it reflects his own experience as a provincial artist seeking to establish himself in a metropolitan art scene.
